Manager of Serials Department (King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Saudi Arabia)

The KFUPM Library seeks an energetic, forward thinking and service-oriented individual for the position of Serials Department. He will have leadership responsibility for monitoring current trends in the management of serials with major emphasis one-journals and e-databases and applying them at KFUPM as much as possible.

Responsibilities: Evaluate, manage and promote the collection of print and electronic serials and databases. Set goals and direction, assess workflow and reorganize the department, if needed. Monitor new trends, standard and technologies in the management of electronic resources, such as EDIFACT, Link Resolver, Federated Search, RFID and others. Develop effective utilization of information technology to streamline workflow processes. Use effectively the report module of the integrated library system. Ensure the efficiency and effective workflow in the acquisition of serials in all formats (electronic, print, multimedia, microform, etc.) Qualifications: MLS from an ALA – accredited library school. Minimum of three years supervisory experience in Serials management in academic libraries. Other Knowledge and skills: Familiarity with serials-related technologies used to provide access to databases and electronic resources. Experience with serials control in an integrated library system environment. Knowledge of serials and database marketplace. Excellent communication (oral and written) skills and ability to work both independently and in a team environment. Excellent knowledge of ILS, web applications and emerging technologies, Twitter, RSS, iphone and others. Ability to think critically, analyze problems and develop and implement creative solutions. Exposure to international library standards (e.g. AACR2/DRA, MARC, NCIP, Dublin Core, Z39.50 and others). Must have good problem solving skills and exercise sound judgment. Ability and experience to plan, manage and oversee complex projects, meet deadlines and to prioritize work in alignment with the service goals of the library and the university. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
