Electronic Resources Access & Discovery Librarian, East Carolina University, Greenville, NC

Known for its leadership in distance learning and its mission to serve, J.Y. Joyner Library, East Carolina University (ECU) seeks applicants for the position of Electronic Resources Access & Discovery Librarian. The successful candidate will be a member of the Library’s Electronic & Continuing Resources Department, which is responsible for acquiring and providing access to journals (both electronic and print formats), databases, and other continuing resources that have been selected for inclusion in the Library’s collection. The person in this position will effectively manage the Library’s expanding electronic resource collections (including e-journals, e-books, databases, and multimedia), and will participate in the Library’s discovery effort. The position will report to the Head of Electronic & Continuing Resources Acquisitions.

Responsibilities include: Working collaboratively with relevant personnel, the Electronic Resources Access & Discovery Librarian will; coordinate and engage in activities for the activation and management of electronic resources within the Library’s electronic resource access management system and knowledgebase; coordinate and participate in the Library’s workflows for the timely investigation and resolution of electronic resource access problems; proactively develop projects and plans to prevent electronic resource access problems; participate in the administration, optimization, and integration of the Library’s web-scale discovery service, link resolver, e-journal/e-book portal, database list, and other systems for the discovery and access of collections ; participate in the development, documentation, management, evaluation, and revision of workflows for electronic resource management; participate in the management of the Library’s electronic resources management system; under the leadership of the Head of Electronic & Continuing Resources Acquisitions, review and negotiate electronic and continuing resources license agreements in accordance with license guidelines; use data-informed metrics to evaluate current and prospective systems and interfaces for access and discovery; monitor trends in access and discovery and recommend appropriate enhancements in the Library’s systems and interfaces; participate in the development of short and long-term plans related to discovery and access; communicate with vendors and publishers regarding electronic resource access and discovery; co-administer the Library’s proxy server; keep relevant personnel informed of changes, enhancements, and problems in electronic resource access; set-up and announce trial access to electronic resources under evaluation by the Library and serve as a member of committees and taskforces, including the Library’s Discovery Advisory Board.
