The University of Connecticut seeks an Associate University Librarian for Collections and Discovery. This senior management position, reporting to the Vice Provost for University Libraries, will provide strong leadership and oversight for a new programmatic area that supports the University of Connecticut community’s research, teaching, and scholarship. The Collections and Discovery Area supports acquisitions, metadata services, electronic resource management, document delivery-interlibrary loan resource sharing, and discovery services. As part of the Vice Provost’s Council, this position works collaboratively with the Vice Provost and senior administration, responsible for the overall success of the University Libraries in meeting the teaching, learning, and research needs of the University of Connecticut. Additionally, this position will be actively engaged in the development, implementation and evaluation of Library goals and objectives as well as assist in developing polices and strategic decisions.
This position will supervise, train, evaluate, guide, and inspire staff who are responsible for the efficient and effective management of Cataloging & Metadata Services, Document Delivery & Interlibrary Loan and Electronic Resource Services. The incumbent will be responsible for taking the initiative to develop an area that is suitably flexible to meet the present and future collection and discovery needs of an academic community.
S/he will play a key role in helping UConn Libraries redefine its collections management, resource sharing, and technical service operations in the context of emerging trends in digital scholarship, open access, scholarly communications, and the development of next-generation resource discovery systems. The incumbent will also provide leadership in areas of copyright and fair use as it applies to collections and resource sharing.
