POSITION: Instructor of Library Science/Head of Electronic Resources & Serials Department
This position reports to the Assistant Dean of Technical, Web & IT Services. The
Head of Electronic Resources & Serials Department manages five library
paraprofessionals; coordinates the purchasing, licensing, and access of electronic
resources and print serial publications, including trials, quotes, new orders, annual
academic department subscriptions review, renewals, cancellations, collecting and
analyzing usage data, and troubleshooting; assists with the implementation and
ongoing administration of the Library’s electronic resource management module;
maintains catalog records, an A-Z list, an OpenURL link resolver, and other utilities;
communicates with vendors regarding the library’s print and electronic
subscriptions; assists with the continuing commitments portions of the library’s
acquisitions budget; ensures that staff and student workers have the resources
required to do their work; stays current with trends in serials, electronic access, and scholarly publishing in general. The position is hands on, but also gives work direction, as required, to library assistants and student staff. This position will serve as liaison and collection development librarian for several several academic departments and serve on library and university committees.
MLIS or equivalent degree from an ALA accredited program. Familiarity with serials and/or electronic resources operations in an academic setting; knowledge of integrated library systems, bibliographic utilities, and other tools for information management or bibliographic control such as electronic resource management systems and journal management systems; ability to assess and implement workflows, manage projects, and establish and document departmental policies and procedures. Creativity and vision are essential. Must be service-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work successfully in a collegial environment, both independently and as part of a team. Must possess excellent interpersonal, oral and written, analytical, and organizational skills.
