Cataloging Librarian (Randolph College, Virginia)

Lipscomb Library at Randolph College welcomes applications for the position of Cataloging Librarian, a full-time (12-month), non-tenured, ranked faculty position. Reporting to the Technical Services Librarian, the Cataloging Librarian will perform original and copy cataloging for new library materials in order to provide timely and comprehensive access to the library collection.

This position requires the ongoing maintenance of the bibliographic database and authority file in a consortia-owned integrated library system. The successful candidate will need to keep abreast of current trends, standards, and developments with regard to cataloging practices. The librarian will supervise one Cataloging Assistant, and will be required to work at the reference desk one afternoon and one evening per week, and periodically on Saturdays during the academic year. Opportunities for working more closely with Reference services, such as Bibliographic Instruction, are available if the candidate is interested. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: A MLIS, MLS, or the equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited program is required. The ability to perform both original and copy catalog using AACR2, LCSH, MARC, and OCLC; the ability to interpret and follow cataloging rules and standards, a willingness to work in conjunction with other libraries in a shared cataloging database; proven proficiency with library computer applications; attention to detail; strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; and the flexibility to adapt as technical services functions evolve over time. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience cataloging with the Dewey Decimal System; demonstrated supervisory experience; a familiarity with the SirsiDynix Horizon integrated library system; a commitment to professional development; a willingness to perform additional inter-departmental library tasks, as needed.
