JOB TITLE: Manager of Cataloging & Collection Development Opening Date: October 10, 2011 Closing Date: November 6, 2011 Scenic Regional Library is seeking a Manager of Cataloging & Collection Development to work at the library administration building in Union, MO. Scenic Regional Library is a mid-size public library with seven branches and a bookmobile which serves Franklin, Warren and Gasconade counties.
Union is an attractive bedroom community near St. Louis, MO. It is located within minutes of shopping, fine dining and top-rated cultural institutions in the St. Louis metropolitan area. NATURE OF WORK: Primary cataloger and purchaser of materials for the library. DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: The ideal candidate will possess an in-depth knowledge of cataloging and classification procedures, bibliographic resources, including experience using OCLC. Knowledge of cataloging standards to include AACR, Dewey, and MARC formats. Collection development experience, including ordering a variety of material formats. Scenic Regional Library acquires materials through Baker & Taylor, Amazon and other vendors to public libraries. The person in this position will work with WorldCat, CatExpress, to process interlibrary-loan materials. Scenic Regional Library uses the LISTEN 2000 automation system. The selected candidate will be able to plan, organize, and manage the technical services operations of the library while effectively communicating, motivating, and managing staff. They will be able to apply library policies and procedures within the department. Will attend staff workshops in order to improve library service. The Manager of Cataloging & Collection Development will have a thorough knowledge of library materials, issues and trends in the field, and the ability to apply that knowledge appropriately. This position reports to the Library Director and keeps administration informed of needs of the collection. Some time spent performing reference and circulation duties. Other duties as assigned. POSITION REQUIRES: ALA-accredited MLS required. Five years demonstrated cataloging experience with all formats of library materials, including print, DVDs, audio books and electronic materials. Demonstrated knowledge of cataloging tools/software, OCLC, cataloging standards. Knowledge of materials processing and familiarity with inter-library loan. Significant collection development/acquisitions experience. Excellent communication/customer service skills and demonstrated supervisory skills. Sufficient strength to lift material weighing up to 40 lbs. WORKING CONDITIONS: 40 hours per week Includes some nights and weekends SALARY: Ranges from $38,000—$44,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.
