Howard-Tilton Memorial Library invites applications for the position of Head of Acquisitions Department. The library seeks to build its professional staff by recruiting talented, energetic librarians interested in shaping the future of Tulane University and New Orleans.
The Head of Acquisitions Department is a creative, detail and team oriented professional who oversees acquisitions functions for an ARL library with an annual materials budget of approximately $8 million and a department of six staff members. This position reports to the Director of Technical Services and works closely with heads and coordinators of Cataloging, Database Management, and Electronic Resources Management. Responsibilities include management of monographs and serials acquisitions, ordering and invoicing for digital resources, processing and tracking fund expenditures, and vendor relations. This position works collaboratively with other librarians outside the Technical Services Division, including subject bibliographers and bibliographers in the Latin American Library and Special Collections. The Howard-Tilton Memorial Library is a rapidly changing environment and its Head of Acquisitions is expected to develop expertise with emerging technologies and participate collaboratively in innovative library projects.
Required: ALA-accredited MLS; minimum 3 years library acquisitions or collection development experience with increasingly responsible work assignments and supervisory responsibilities; ability to multitask and manage detail; strong oral and written communication skills; strong critical thinking skills; familiarity with a modern European language; knowledge of ILS systems and EDI; potential for leadership in a collaborative setting; productive attitude and enthusiasm for an innovative and changing environment.
Preferred: Acquisitions experience in a mid-to-large academic or research library and accounting experience; experience with Ex Libris Voyager.
Salary/Benefits: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Librarians are academic appointees; librarians do not have tenure or faculty rank, but in other respects receive the benefits of faculty members; generous benefits including a choice of health plans, tuition waiver for self, and undergraduate tuition waiver for dependents.
