Wyndham Robertson Library at Hollins University invites applications for the position of Cataloging & Periodicals Librarian.  Candidates are sought who are committed to cross-functional librarianship and interested in working in a collaborative library environment dedicated to the support of a liberal arts curriculum.

Reporting to the University Librarian, the Cataloging & Periodicals Librarian will provide leadership, management, supervision and planning for bibliographic control of materials in all formats by participating in and/or directly supervising all library cataloging, acquisitions and periodicals operations.  The librarian will maintain original and copy-cataloging policies and procedures for materials in all formats; oversee the check-in, claiming, and renewals of periodicals and manage the library’s relationship with its periodicals vendor(s); lead the library’s bibliographic control efforts through awareness of emerging trends, standards, and technologies; and supervise 1.5 staff as well as 1-3 student assistants.

Qualifications:  The successful candidate will be a motivated self-starter who possesses a high level of energy, flexibility, and creativity and an eagerness to participate fully in the daily life of a small, liberal arts university community.  Required:  ALA-accredited MLIS/MLS or equivalent degree or other related master’s degree; demonstrated ability to perform original and copy cataloging using LC classification, MARC formats, and AACR2 in an automated library system environment; excellent oral and written communication skills; experience with or ability to learn and execute management of periodicals subscriptions in all formats; a demonstrated commitment to professional development; and a demonstrated ability to supervise, manage and delegate work among a team of colleagues.  Preferred:  Working knowledge of an integrated library system; experience or training in the cataloging of special formats; and experience working with a periodicals vendor.  This position includes the possibility to participate in provision of reference and instruction services, depending upon qualifications and interest.
