ASSOCIATE LIBRARIAN FOR TECHNICAL SERVICES
The Ingalls Library of the Cleveland Museum of Art invites applications from motivated and innovative librarians to provide leadership and expertise for the Technical Services Department. The Associate Librarian for Technical Services manages a department comprised of three professional staff and six support staff and reports to the Director of Library and Archives. The department is responsible for the ordering, licensing, receiving, processing, repairing and binding of library materials; the cataloging and classification of library materials; and maintaining the bibliographic database. The position serves as staff liaison to IT for the integrated library system (Aleph) and as liaison to OCLC and OhioNet; serves on the Library Curatorial Committee; participates in the planning, evaluation, and implementation of policies and plans; prepares reports and statistics; participates in the hiring, evaluating and supervising of subordinates, volunteers and practicum students. The position is a member of the library’s senior staff.
The Ingalls Library is a nationally recognized art reference library (including image library and museum archives). Founded in 1916, the library contains approximately 465,000 titles, including journals, 92,000 auction catalogues, and 28,000 clipping files. The image library contains approximately 285,000 digital images, and 6,000,000 photographs of works of art and architecture, including individual photographs and microfiche.
Requirements: Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program; minimum of three to five years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Comprehensive knowledge of library technical services developments, trends and issues and experience administering a materials budget. Proficiency with an integrated library system, OCLC resources and services that support technical services. Prior supervisory experience. Working knowledge of at least two foreign languages, as well as a proficiency in using dictionaries for other foreign languages. Experience with binding, processing and preservation. Excellent organizational, problem-solving and oral and written communication skills.
Flexibility and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a rapidly changing environment.
Desirable Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university in art history; project management experience; policy development.
