The University of Wyoming Libraries is seeking applicants for a Head of Copy Cataloging position. Successful applicants should demonstrate creativity, energy, and the ability to succeed in a changing and dynamic environment. The Head of Copy Cataloging supervises staff positions that perform copy cataloging for all formats and provides bibliographic maintenance of the library catalog.  Responsibilities include hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating staff.  Coordinates activities of the Unit within Technical Services, and with other departments within the libraries. Acts in the absence of the Department Head for daily operations of Technical Services.  Works closely with the Principal Cataloger to ensure adherence to local standards and practices. This position will perform original cataloging, assist with complex copy cataloging beyond the scope of the staff, provide leadership for serials cataloging decisions, and coordinate assigned projects.  As the Libraries increase their digital collections, the position will provide leadership and training for the transition to cataloging of digital objects. As a member of the library faculty, the successful individual is expected to pursue an active and ongoing program of research, service and professional development  (http://www.uwyo.edu/generalcounsel/_files/docs/UW-Reg-7-631.pdf.) The position reports to the Head of Technical Services. Required qualifications: MLS from an ALA accredited institution. Minimum three years of successful, progressively responsible post MLS experience in an academic library. Minimum one year supervisory experience and demonstrated ability to work effectively as a personnel manager. The position requires advanced knowledge of LCC, LCSH, USMARC, AACR2R, RDA, OCLC, CONSER, authority control, bibliographic maintenance, and integrated library system functionality. Familiarity or training with non-MARC metadata schemas. Serials cataloging experience. Excellent interpersonal, problem solving and organizational skills. Preferred qualifications: Experience with the Millennium integrated library system. NACO experience.  Production experience with non-MARC metadata schemas.
