Re-housing Library Technician for contract position at a Federal Agency Washington DC & Landover, MD

LAC Group seeks a number of Library Technicians to work on temporary materials relocation project at a prestigious Federal Library located in Washington, DC with an off-site location in Landover, MD.   This position works with rare archival and special collections materials that require appropriate handling and physical elements necessary for this job.  This is full-time (40 hours per week; Monday – Friday) position that will last from July 5th – September 6th, 2011.  This position will work in both Washington DC and requires reliable transportation to the Landover, MD facility.   This is a physical position that requires the ability to lift heavy materials, work in dirty and dusty spaces and the ability to work on your feet all day.   Do not apply unless you can meet these physical requirements.


•             Process archival collections for off-site shipping and storage

•             Inventory books, portfolios and other related materials following established archival rules

•             Review and edit database entries as necessary

•             Perform all aspects of post-cataloging support such as adding bar codes, property stamps, and spine labels when necessary

•             Perform necessary steps to withdraw material from the collection and database;

•             Additional duties as necessary or requested


•             Previous experience working with library, special collections, archival or rare/fragile collections

•             Previous experience in a library in the areas of book processing, collection management, interlibrary loans, and/or technical support

•             Previous experience working with data entry, database management and ILS experience preferred

•             Previous experience working for or with the Library of Congress preferred

•             Must have reliable transportation to Landover, MD (not metro accessible) as well as to Washington DC site location (metro accessible)

•             Academic degree from an accredited university

•             Excellent attention to detail

•             Strong work ethic and reliability/punctuality required
