Assistant Professor- Acquisition Librarian (Adelphi University, New York)

The Adelphi University Libraries, Garden City, NY, seek a service oriented, collegial individual with an ALA-accredited MLS to be responsible for a wide range of activities related to the acquisition of materials in a variety of formats. Includes coordination of daily operations related to ordering, receiving, and claiming materials; monitoring expenditures, payments & order status; evaluating vendor performance; and supervising & training of Acquisitions personnel. Other responsibilities include selection of materials in assigned subject(s), provision of reference service, and participation in the Library’s information literacy program. Applicants must possess excellent supervisory, interpersonal and communications skills as well as the ability to work effectively in a collegial environment. Desirable qualifications include experience with Innovative Interfaces or another integrated library system, previous acquisitions experience, and knowledge of the book trade & library vendors. Requires evidence of the ability to meet criteria for promotion and tenure. A second post-baccalaureate degree or similar proof of advanced study is required for tenure. This position will report to the Dean of Libraries through the Associate Dean for Technical and Automated Services. 190 day work year with the possibility of occasional evenings and weekends.
