Vincennes University is seeking an innovative, energetic and service-oriented academic library professional for the position of Technical Services Librarian.  This is a twelve month, professional staff position. The Technical Services Librarian is responsible for the management and supervision of library technical services operations for cataloging and processing of all library holdings.  The Technical Services Librarian manages the integrated library system (Voyager) utilizing the cataloging, circulation, reports, acquisitions and system administrator modules.  Other duties include assigned hours at the information desk, collection development and liaison to an assigned instructional division.  The Technical Services Librarian reports directly to the Dean of the Shake Learning Resources Center.


  • Supervise and evaluate three full-time support staff.
  • Classify and catalog all print and electronic materials added to library holdings for all campus sites, via OCLC and the Voyager library management system.
  • Perform collection development activities in assigned subject areas, including evaluation, selection and de-selection of materials.
  • Develop reports (MS Access) for extracting data from the Voyager system.
  • Supervise the maintenance of the periodical/serials collection.
  • Provide user assistance during schedule hours at the information desk and shares bibliographic instruction, information literacy and instructional support duties with other librarians.
  • Create web-based guides required for the effective use of resources.
  • Supervise the library during assigned evening and weekend hours.


  • Ability to effectively supervise support staff.
  • Can work effectively in a team environment with Learning Resources Center professional, technical and support staff.
  • Knowledge of how to use and manage applicable software including:  integrated library management systems such as Voyager, OCLC, and database administration.
  • Understands cataloging procedures using LCSH, AACR2, DDC and OCLC bibliographic and authority records.
  • Familiarity with HTML, XHTML and CSS.
  • Academic library experience is a strong plus.  Consideration will also be given to other kinds of library experience.
  • Must be able to work with students from diverse backgrounds.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: MLS Degree in Library Science/Information Studies from an American Library Association accredited institution.
