The University Libraries at Western Michigan University is seeking an innovative, collaborative, and user-focused individual to fill the position of Electronic Resource Specialist.
Reviews, organizes, recommends, and troubleshoots electronic resources for the University libraries. Provides support for electronic resources. Reviews and manages data, provides reports, and creates and maintains data sets..
Enables and maintains access to the libraries’ subscription electronic resources. Submits technical information, interacts with vendors, and tracks receipt of contracts and licensing information.
Provides support for electronic resources, which involves recommending, downloading, and implementing software; advising and training users; and troubleshooting software problems.
Corresponds with vendors and suppliers to ensure receipt and operability of electronic materials. Notifies the cataloging and web units of newly implemented electronic publications and the means to access them.
Reviews, organizes, and troubleshoots web-based electronic resources including e-journals, e-books, and databases.
Answers questions from the University community on electronic journals and databases Access and interoperability.
Generate reports to department heads, faculty, and the library administration.
Accesses various types of in-house and remote software for publishing information and bibliographic verification.
Evaluates and implements new technologies and techniques involving the libraries’ on-line system, the bibliographic utility, the electronic data interchange, and other software and hardware.
Oversees data migration and systems interoperability
Reviews and manages serials purchasing data using the libraries’ on-line system and stand-alone databases.
Supervises one or more student library assistants.
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
One year of experience working with electronic resources and in relational databases.
Working experience with library resources and operations.
Working experience with the Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Access.
Experience with ODBC, Open Office, and PHP.
Working experience with SFX, 360 Resource Manager, EZproxy, 360 Link, Summon, VuFind, and/or Solr.
