Assistant Project Manager, Library & Archives – New Orleans, LA (LAC)

LAC Group is seeking well-rounded candidates for the position of Assistant Project Manager, Library & Archives Processing (“Assistant PM” or “APM”), for a long-term project in New Orleans, LA.   The Assistant PM will ideally have tremendous “people skills” and communication skills and administrative-level experience in a large library, special collections, or archives environment.  The APM should be comfortable working alongside their reporting staff in the stacks and be able to lead a talented team of archivists, librarians and library support personnel who are working tirelessly on an important post-Katrina preservation project in New Orleans.  This position is part of a multi-year project rather than a career-length position.  The project will have an end-date at some point in the future; however, this is a long-term project that is scheduled to run through 2012 at a minimum and possibly longer.

Our ideal candidate for the AMP role might best be described as a generalist library manager — someone who can work seamlessly and harmoniously with our on-site Project Manager who has the ultimate responsibility for production, quality control (QC), budgeting and meeting deadlines.  The Assistant PM will report to the Project Manager at a supervisory level and will have responsibility for and expertise in managing the personnel side of the project.  Tasks will include performing hands-on training and quality control, fostering positive employee relations and team building, and helping the Project Manager achieve the stated goals of the project.

The successful applicant must come from an academic, public or government library, special collections, or archives, where he/she has had supervisory experience.  Knowledge of cataloging, archives, and materials processing will be essential.

This list is intended to represent the main functions and is not intended to be all-inclusive of tasks.

  • Ensure staff’s efforts are aligned with project goals

  • Provide feedback and serve as “sounding board,” as needed, for staff who may have questions or suggestions for changes to work, work output or workflow procedures
  • Work closely with Project Manager to support the overall goals and objectives of the project
  • Perform Quality Control and ensure standards are being met for all library, cataloging, archiving, processing, and other related work
