Electronic Resources Librarian, Clemson University, Clemson SC

Clemson University is seeking a flexible and enthusiastic Librarian to join its Acquisitions Unit.

This is a 12-month tenure-track position with faculty rank and status.  Clemson library faculty participate in library-wide planning and governance, work in a shared decision-making environment, and are encouraged to be active in university service and professional organizations. Clemson University pursues an ambitious plan to become one of the nation’s top-20 public universities and is actively engaged in a University wide strategic planning process to establish priorities and strategies for the next decade.  The Libraries are an integral part of the core educational and research missions of Clemson University and the place to be for undergraduate study and collaboration.

Position Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Acquisitions Unit Head,

  • Manages aspects of electronic acquisitions (which may include vendor ordering systems, collection analysis tools, e-books, and a link resolver).
  • Participates in implementation and maintenance of Innovative Millennium’s electronic resources management system (ERM).
  • Assists with collection of usage data for electronic resources.
  • Resolves electronic access problems for e-journals, databases, and e-books.
  • Develops vendor and publisher relationships, schedules and coordinates demos and training with account representatives.
  • Designs and maintains Acquisitions Unit web page.
  • Assists in serials cancellation and weeding projects (such as ongoing weeding of JSTOR collections).
  • Trains new selectors and serves as a resource for selectors in using tools such as YBP’s Gobi and the WorldCat collection analysis software.
  • Maintains awareness of current and emerging trends and technologies pertaining to electronic acquisitions and electronic resources.
  • Participates in planning, decision making, and management of the Acquisitions Unit.

Required Qualifications/Experience:

ALA-accredited master’s degree or foreign equivalent as determined by ALA recommended procedures

Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills

Commitment to quality service

Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills

Ability to work independently, balance priorities, set and meet deadlines

Ability to meet the requirements of retention and tenure

Experience with standard computer applications, integrated library systems, and internet resources

Preferred Qualifications/Experience:

Experience in an academic or research library

Experience with electronic resources

Experience with III Millennium

Experience with budgeting or accounting

Training or supervisory experience

Salary and Benefits: Minimum: $42,000; rank and competitive salary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience. State of South Carolina, TIAA-CREF, or other retirement plans available. Various medical plans, dental plans, 18 days annual leave, 15 days sick leave, 12 paid holidays, and liberal professional development leave are provided. Clemson University allows employees to earn up to six credit hours free of charge each semester. Library faculty receive an individual stipend for travel or other professional development activity.

Library: Clemson University Libraries employs 30 librarians and over 70 support staff and uses III’s Millennium system. The Acquisitions Unit consists of 2 Librarians and 12 support staff.  Unit responsibilities include acquisition, payment, and licensing of materials in all formats.  For more information about the Libraries and its services, see http://www.clemson.edu/library.
